KLC Programming

Learning Centre Programs

KLC Junior - Grade 9 to 10

Supports students who are disengaged for a variety of reasons. Students are supported through a small class setting with a personalized learning program. Classes follow a full semester schedule. Transportation is not guaranteed.

Referrals to this program happen through a student’s home school and LDSB Attendance Counsellors.

KLC Core - Grade 11 to 12+

For adult students and high school students who have not engaged with or experienced success in typical school environments. Learners work on one courses at a time (non-semestered) through an e-learning model with in-person support towards OSSD or upgrading courses at the college or workplace level. Transportation is not provided.

For students currently registered in LDSB schools, home schools can make a referral to KLC.  For students currently not in school, they can register directly either using the information on the website or by contacting the school.


Indigenous Programming for Self-Identified Students

Bridge - Grades 3 to 6

Designed for self-identified Indigenous elementary students who are disengaged in their regular classroom. The Bridge Program combines the Ontario Curriculum with Indigenous pedagogies to provide a holistic learning opportunity through cultural programming and land-based practices.  

Referrals to this program happen through a student’s home school and through a connection with the LDSB Indigenous Team.

River - Grades 10 to 12

River focuses on Indigenous educational experiences and cultural learning, with a goal of building trusting relationships in a safe, welcoming environment for self-identified Indigenous students. The program is run in partnership with the Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest. Classes follow a full semester schedule.

Referrals to this program happen through a student’s home school and through a connection with the LDSB Indigenous Team.


District Programs

Rise - Grade 6 to 8

Alternative educational programming for students requiring significant support/ intervention, who are at risk for long-term suspension/expulsion, or have police/court conditions preventing them from attending their Home School.

This specialty program requires involvement and referral through home schools and additional LDSB Student Support teams – Safe Schools, Attendance Counsellors, Ed Services etc.

Transitions - Grade 9 to 10

Educational Services program designed to engage students who have not been able to access the curriculum in their regular classrooms due to social, emotional, and behavioural challenges. Classes follow a full semester schedule while also building important self-regulation and socio-emotional skills.

This specialty program requires involvement and referral through home schools and additional LDSB Student Support teams – Safe Schools, Attendance Counsellors, Ed Services etc.

LINKS DLC - Grade 9 to 10

Educational Services half-day program that supports students whose mental health needs has directly impacted their school attendance and ability to engage in academics. Mental health support is provided through a partnership with KHSC.

This specialty program requires involvement and referral through home schools and additional LDSB Student Support teams – Safe Schools, Attendance Counsellors, Ed Services etc.

Non-Credit Programming: Elementary International Languages, Adult Literacy and Basic Skills, Adult English as a Second Language and Adult Community Interest Programming.

Credit Programming: Teacher Assisted Self-Study (TASS)/Night School and Personal Support Worker Program
